Methodology

Until there is a decent amount of data for the 19/20 season my rankings will be primarily based on historic performance.

I’ve picked a selection of midfielders who I think will start GW2 although where there is doubt it is mentioned in the commentary below.

I’ve then looked at their expected goals and assists data in 18/19 so far as well as how it relates to their historical numbers. After that I’ve then adjusted it for their ability to over/underperform, their bonus potential, their average minutes played and clean sheet points.

Stats definitions

PP90 mins adjusted: I’ve taken their Points per 90 and adjusted them for average minutes played in the last 10 games of 18/19. However in some cases where I didn’t think that was representative going forward I’ve subjectively adjusted them.

FFG Proj PPG: The PPG going forward using the above methodology adjusted for minutes played as above

FPL PPM: The points per match from the fantasy premier league website

Consistency: the % of starts where the player has scored a goal or assist. Only appearance of 45 mins or more count

Average mins last 10: The average minutes played when starting in the last 10 gameweeks of 18/19. However in some cases where I didn’t think that was representative going forward I’ve subjectively adjusted them.

Fixture ease: this is the fixture adjustment from my attacking players fixture ease schedule article.

VFM: That’s the points for 6 games divided by the price to give a value for money estimate.

The schedule

Here is the link to the google spreadsheet. You can go to file>make a copy and then sort it how you like. Yaniv for example swears by the FPL site PPG and I guess when you’ve finished in the top 10k the last 2 seasons you’ve got a fairly good defence.

However, the schedule is ranked by my projected points over 6 gameweeks. That’s my projected points per game adjusted for fixtures over 6 weeks

A few comments

Non starters GW1

There were a number of non starters in GW1 who I haven’t put in the schedule whether that’s by injury or selection. That includes Eriksen, Bernardo Silva, Dele Alli, Pereyra, Willian, Pepe, Lo Celso, Pulisic.

Questions over gametime

Anderson may have an injury for GW2 so I haven’t included him

Son is suspended GW2 so no question really

I wonder whether Antonio, Moura and Mkhitaryan will hold their place given new transfers in waiting in the wings.

Mahrez was excellent and I’d be really surprised if he didn’t start v Spurs but Pep has said Bernardo had a small injury and even though Peps words mean nothing it still casts doubts on both of them.

The fiasco at Old Trafford means who knows who will lineup for Chelsea in midfield. Pedro may have made mistakes but at least he had some attacking output with 4 shots and 5 key passes. Similar for Gudmundsson to see if he can hold his place

Other questions

Ndombele and McGinn despite returning concern me just as they play as CMs. A bit of wait and see.
